| nb_NO |
dc.description.abstract | In most Norwegian cities, the population is expected to increase. To prepare for this population growth, it is recommended to concentrate housing around public transportation hubs and in the city centre, while maintaining and sustaining the quality of the already built environment. Additionally, it is a goal to reduce the car use and general need for travel. With these goals, cities have to prioritize how to efficiently utilize what is already limited land recourses. Some areas in the centre are vacant many hours per day, and could have been utilized better: namely parking areas. If the private car is no longer needed to commute to- and within the city center, Narvik, for example, could free up 78 000 m2 of parking area. This translates to roughly 11 football fields, an area twice the size of Sørengautstikkeren in Oslo.
The thesis looks at how the use of new technology and new mobility solutions can lead to the freeing up of parking areas in medium-sized cities. It then investigates how this parking area can be developed so that it contributes to city center development, with a human centered approach. Medium-sized cities are of special interest, as they often have a culture and structure depending on car commute. | nb_NO |
