Abstract
The increasing number of nanomaterial based consumer products raises concerns about their possible impact on the environment. Silver nanoparticles have strong antibacterial properties, which may affect biological wastewater treatment process. To determine the effect, greywater was collected from a local on-site wastewater treatment plant for greywater and added 0.1, 1 and 10 mg Ag/L, circulating for 14 days to highly loaded infiltration columns. In addition, a reference was not added nanosilver to compare with. The columns were inoculated with the same biofilm as in the greywater treatment plant beforehand. Based on heterotrophic plate counts (HPC there was no significant reduction in cultivable bacteria in the biofilms.
