The defense industry desire an increase in product streamlining to use fewer resources on delivering systems, to reduce the development risk. The situation today is that the marked is expanding due to increased defense spending on global instability. The process of linking functional requirements to specific customer needs and map their relationship is important for the development team to develop a product that meets the expectation of the customer. This thesis uses qualitative methods in the research, through literature- and documentation-study and expert elicitation through interviews, to investigate how quality function deployment (QFD) can be deployed into the development of NASAMS. The thesis research questions: * How can QFD be used to commercialize air defense systems? * Can a categorized system requirement specification be representative for a complex system in QFD? * With the base in the systems engineering postulates, how can QFD be used as a tool within systems engineering developing to concept of operations? The research established a tool for the quality function deployment and a proof of concept for how QFD can be deployed into the development of NASAMS. This visual representation of QFD helps the development team to see the relationships between different requirements and customer needs and can be used to identify areas where improvements can be made. The results of the applied method are improved communication within the development team and a better understanding of customer needs and priorities. However, the research showed that there were limitations and challenges to the QFD process.
