fortrinnsvis i kystsamfunn.
dc.description.abstract | This master's thesis has explored the issue of how collaboration for preservation and value
creation in the cultural heritage field can contribute to place development in Kvitsøy.
Kvitsøy municipality is examined as an administrative unit, a geographical entity, and a
relational constellation of various actors that interact with each other. The aim is to shed
light on how place development can be pursued in small communities, particularly in
coastal communities.
This thesis has explored the theme of uncovering and creating new spaces and arenas for
collaboration in place development, often situated between the public sector and the
voluntary sector. The study shows that collaboration among different actors can provide
a wider space for preservation and value creation in Kvitsøy's cultural heritage. The
municipality has played a crucial role in mobilizing resources and expertise to support
place development on the island. Furthermore, the owners of Kvitsøy's unique lobster
parks also have a significant impact through their involvement in the collaborative efforts
on the value creation side. At the same time, it has been emphasized that such a
collaborative model must be flexible and adaptable to address the various challenges and
changes that may arise.
The findings of this master's thesis contribute to the academic knowledge base with a
qualitative study on a community's specific initiatives to drive place development through
facilitating collaboration with actors in the cultural heritage field. All place development
projects are and must be unique. Place-sensitive planning, as well as patience in
collaboration with local actors, contributes to building a flexible and adaptable space for
place development. | |
