Ned til elva : en mulighetsstudie for flomvollen på Volla

Abstract

Hovedformålet med oppgaven er å vise et forslag til hvordan man kan heve flomvollen på Volla til en flomsikker høyde, samt innlemme den i omgivelsene som et landskapselement.

Klimaet er i endring, og vi må tilpasse oss raskt. Flomvoll er et direkte svar på Lillestrøms klimatilpasningsarbeid, og den er ment å beskytte bebyggelse og infrastruktur. Slike voller har ofte blitt bygget i umiddelbar nærhet til elva, og dette har ført til at elva har blitt kanalisert og mistet sin økologiske funksjon. Oppgaven vår prøver derfor å undersøke hvordan man kan konstruere en flomvoll og samtidig ta hensyn til økosystemet i elva.

Vi utfordrer den vanlige måten å bygge flomvoll på, ved å i størst mulig grad integrere den i landskapet. Vi etablerer våtmark og reetablerer kantvegetasjon langs elva. I tillegg blir vollen trukket så langt vekk fra elvebredden som mulig, for å sikre plass til elva samt habitatene og dyrelivet i tilknytning til den.

Det er også viktig at flomvollen utvikles i tråd med vedtatte planer for Lillestrøm. Vollen har mulighet til å bli en svært viktig blågrønn struktur i byen, og et bindeledd mellom nord og sør. Parken på vollen skal tilby aktiviteter og få økt rekreasjonsverdi. Det er også viktig at forbindelsen ned til elva styrkes og at elva blir mer tilgjengelig for innbyggerne.

Avslutningsvis i oppgaven reflekterer vi over hva vi har kommet frem til gjennom prosjekteringen, og hvordan forslaget reflekterer vårt opprinnelige mål. Til slutt presenterer vi en konklusjon over eget arbeid.

The main purpose of this master’s thesis is to make a suggestion about how to raise the existing levee at Volla to a sufficient height, and simultaneously incorporate the levee as a landscape element. The climate is changing, and we must adapt rapidly. The use of a levee is a direct answer to the climate adaptation plan of Lillestrøm, which contains measures to protect buildings and infrastructure. Levees are typically built too close to rivers, which invariably leads to the river being channelized and losing its ecological function. Therefore, our thesis tries to examine the possibility of constructing a levee so that the existing ecosystems in the river are retained. We challenge the normalized way of constructing a levee by integrating it as much as possible into the landscape. Furthermore, we establish wetlands and re-establish riparian vegetation along the river. In addition, the levee is constructed as far away from the riverbank as possible. This is done to ensure sufficient space for the river, as well as the habitats and wildlife connected to the river system. Moreover, it is important that the levee is constructed in line with adopted plans for Lillestrøm. The levee has the possibility to become a major blue-green structure in the city, and a link between the north and the south part of Lillestrøm. The park, which will be integrated on top of the levee, will offer different activities and an increased recreational value. In addition, it is important that the connection down to the river is enhanced, so that the river is more available to the citizens. Towards the end of the thesis, we discuss possible solutions for the levee that we have highlighted throughout the project, and how it reflects our original purpose. Finally, we present a conclusion of our own work.
