Odderøya : en historisk vandring

Abstract

Kunnskap om et steds fortid kan i stor grad påvirke måten vi oppfatter det på samt vår tilknytning til stedet. Landskapsarkitekter har i dag en tendens til å ende opp med nyskapende resultat noe som ofte utelukker bruk og videreføring av stedets eksisterende karakter. Vår forhistorie er i ferd med å bli glemt og det er opp til oss å eksponere den for fremtidige generasjoner. Denne masteroppgaven tar i bruk Odderøyas sjøfartshistorie som bakgrunn for å skape et utendørs anlegg i forbindelse med utbyggingen av sjøfartsmuseet i Nodeviga. Oppgaven tar for seg kommunens mål og Vest-Agder-museets visjon for Nodeviga, historien fra 1500-tallet fram til i dag, samt teoretiske innfallsvinkler og analyser som danner grunnlaget for videre arbeid. Funnene oppsummeres i et konsept, et utformingskonsept og fire overordnede grep. Tema som bringes til overflaten er utendørs rekreasjon og helse, utendørs lære, universell utforming og tematisert vandring. Som et resultat av dette utformes det en sammenhengende kyststi som forlenger sjøfartsmuseets havneområde og tilgjengeliggjør kystlandskapet. Kyststien er nå ment å bli et område for rekreasjon og læring hvor den lokale sjøfartshistorien formidles gjennom arkitektur. Allmenn tilgjengelighet av kystområdet vil bidra til å ivareta byens tidligere særpreg samtidig som utformingen oppfordrer til interaksjon mellom mennesker. Oppgaven utfordrer dagens designere til å ta vare på og videreformidle vår forhistorie gjennom stedstilpasset utforming.

Awareness of the history of a place can highly influence our perception of and relationship with that place. Landscape architects have the tendency of planning brand new designs that replace the existing character of a place breaking the continuity with the past. To stop the gradual erasure of our history, we must incorporate it into our future. This master thesis ties the marine history of Odderoya to the creation of an outdoor site associated with the upcoming marine museum in Nodeviga. The thesis integrates the goals of the municipality and Vest-Agder-museets concerning Nodeviga, it represents the marine history dating back to the 15th century and displays theoretical views and analysis. The findings of the framework are then converted into an idea, a design concept and four guidelines for creating the outdoor area. Significant issues such as outdoor recreation and health, diverse learning methods, universal design and themed paths are taken into careful consideration. A connected and coherent coastal walk will enlarge the museum’s waterfront and expand accessibility of the coastal landscape. The coastal walk will contribute to recreation and learning with local marine history communicated through architecture. The increased accessibility to all will simultaneously preserve the history of the city and enhance human interaction. This thesis encourages designers to appreciate and pass on our history through customized landscape design.
