Utredning og utvikling av produksjonsboks for Tenebrio molitor

Abstract

Masteroppgaven er en del av ENTOFÔR-prosjektet hos Norsk Institutt for Bioøkonomi (NIBIO), hvor en av næringslivspartnerne er NorInsect AS som driver med oppdrett av insektslarver (Tenebrio molitor). Prosjektmålet til ENTOFÔR - «fra avfall til ressurs» er å utarbeide kunnskap og verktøy slik at det kan utvikles en industri innenfor larveproduksjon, foret på organisk avfall fra blant annet matproduksjon i Norge. Ved å benytte insekter som proteinkilde fremfor soya i blant annet dyrefôr, vil dyrene få i seg animalsk protein samtidig som det er et mer bærekraftig produkt fremfor soya. Hovedmålet med gradsarbeidet er å utrede, utvikle og teste en ny type produksjonsboks tilpasset oppdrett av T. molitor. Fokuselementer er å samle opp avføringen fra larvene på en enkel måte og øke luftgjennomstrømningen i boksene som kan føre til økt overlevelsesprosent hos larvene. Arbeidet skal føre til en anbefaling av en produksjonsboks som NorInsect AS kan benytte i sin insektsproduksjon fremfor dagens bokser.

The Master's thesis is part of the ENTOFÔR project at the Norwegian Institute of Bioeconomy Research (NIBIO), where NorInsect AS, which is engaged in the breeding of Tenebrio Molitor, is one of the business partners. The project objective of ENTOFÔR - "from waste to resource" is to develop knowledge and tools for development for a larvae production industry, which has organic food waste as main resource. By utilizing insects as a source of protein in animal feed, rather than for example soya, animals will be provided with more of the correct type of protein in addition to the production being more sustainable than the production and import of soya The main purpose of the thesis is to analyze, develop and test a new type of production box adapted to the cultivation of larvae (T. molitor). Focus elements will be to easily collect the feces from the larvae and increase the air flow in the boxes that can lead to increased survival rates for the larvae. The work will lead to a recommendation of a production box that NorInsect AS can use in its insect production rather than today's boxes.
