| nb_NO |
dc.description.abstract | Strong international competition and consolidated customer base within Norwegian groceries have made a greater demand for efficiency. This master's thesis has the purpose to examine how mathematical programming can be used to optimize lot-sizing from an economic point of view.
A case study of Brynild Gruppen has been conducted to find the optimal lot-sizing in the company's sugar confectionery. Both qualitative and quantitative methods have been used to collect data for the model. The qualitative data consists of estimates made by the Production Manager and Production Planner at Brynild Gruppen. The quantitative numbers are derived from the production plan and the intranet.
A model has been created in SAS Studio that finds the optimal lot-sizing from an economic point of view. The model is based on existing literature on optimization and the EOQ-model. The object function that is minimized consists of stochastic parameters, deterministic parameters, and limitations. SAS Studio uses an internal point algorithm to solve the nonlinear optimization problem.
The results show that the lot-sizes from the model differs from the average batch sizes at Brynild Gruppen. Total costs, which consists of inventory, waste, and inventory costs, are mapped. The results show that storage cost accounts for the largest percentage of the total cost. Further analysis has shown that there is a mismatch between process and packing. This may indicate that the packaging line is a bottleneck, which results in a lot of goods being stored as semi-finished products. The results indicate that this is particularly true for Dent, which also appears when there are fluctuations in the market. An investment in the capacity of the packing machine should, therefore, be taken into consideration. | nb_NO |
