This master thesis concerns acoustic comfort and differences in solutions for soundinsulation and types of student apartments in multistorey student apartments built with cross laminatet timber (CLT) built after 2012. The thesis examines wether the acoustic comfort in the new multistorey apartments in CLT is sufficiently good and which types of noise are most critical. The thesis examines if there are effecs of the different solutions for sound insultation and types of student apartments in the buildings. The thesis examines 18 multistorey student apartment buildings in CLT, but also 4 older multistorey student apartment buildings in concrete built in the 1960-1970’s for comparison. An internet-based questionnaire where distributed to the residents, which yielded 638 respondents and percentage of respondents ranging from 45 % to 64 % in the buildings. A measurement of the sound insultation of some floors and party walls in some buildings where also measured. The thesis finds that the majority of respondents in the buildings are satisfied with the noise conditions, but the percentage of dissatisfied in the CLT-buildings are 26.6% and 32.5% in concrete buildings. In NS8175: 2012 - Sound insulation in buildings - Sound classes for various building types, that applies in the time of writing the theis, there is no quantified criteria for the maximum proportion that is unsatisfied with the audio. The thesis therefore uses the criteria of a maximum of 20 % dissatisfied residents in the 2008 edition of NS8175 in assessing whether the noise conditions is good enough. Based on this definition of sufficiently good noise conditions, there are insufficiently good noise conditions in 16 of the 18 CLT-buildings and 4 of the 4 older concrete buildings the thesis has examined. In comparison with other studies, there are no indications that there is a larger share of dissatisfied residents in multi-storey student housing in solid compared to other student apartments, but there are indications that there is a larger proportion of dissatisfied residents in student housing in generelt compared to ordinary multistorey apartment buildings. This thesis finds that residents' annoyance of neighbour noise is the main reason for the insufficient acoustical conditions. Complaints of noise from impact sound and bass/loud music from neighbours is the biggest problems. There are also problems with airbourne sound from neighbors everyday activity through partitions and floors. The thesis also finds that residents greatly annoyed by noise from people outside through the facades. The thesis finds that residents in couple flats and doublets are more annoyed by noise in general than residents in single person apartments and shared apartments, which on average is as much bothered. The residents of the shared apartments with the fewest flats (4) is least bothered by the 5 noise, but there is otherwise no clear correlation with the size of the shared apartments and noise annoyance in general. The paper finds the effect of various floors solutions on complaints of noise through separating floors and find significant correlation between annoynace with impact sound and normalised impact sound with C-correction for the lower frequency range. In the CLT-buildings where is no free bearing sound insulating ceiling are used, noise annoyance levelse are largest. This thesis also finds that there is a larger annoyance of airbourne sound through partition walls in CLT-buildings where CLT-partition walls are battened with plaster wall, compared to the CLTbuildings in which the CLT-partition is complemented with standalone plaser walls which has 5-7 dB higher R'w. A large proportion of the doors in collectives in individual buildings are leaky, leading to lower R’w and cause larger degrees of annoyance of noise through partitions to the common area in the shared apartments.nb_NO
