ENGLISH....Statistics show that productivity in the Norwegian construction industry has been declining in recent years(Det Kongelege Kommunal- og Regionaldepartement 2012). In an effort to improve productivity in construction projects, several of Norway’s leading construction companies implemented Virtual Design and Construction (VDC). This report is a qualitative depth study designed to look at the use of VDC-concept with project planning. multidisciplinary projects in The report analyzes and discusses VDC-elements and tools, before it focuses on large multidisciplinary projects for engineering consultancy firms, and challenges related to the role of the project planning manager. The data in the report comes from interviews and observations of ICE sessions. The VDC theory defines four main elements, Organization, Process, Product/BIM+ and Measurements. Results and discussion concludes that Product/BIM+ and Organization are the elements that project planning manager are enabling to the greatest extent, while the process and measurements are partially neglected. From the engineering consultancy firms the results indicates that some processes follow similar principles as in VDC, but without defining it as a special way of working. Although there are some differences in the methods, the results indicate that it will have a positive impact for their projects to focusing on the four elements of VDC. The engineering consultancy firms are already conducting collocated design, but without some of the VDC-tools. The results show that the engineering consultancy firms will get a positive effect if they implement elements from VDC. The most appropriate transfer is therefore collaboration tools, which have been an important part of the success of the construction company’s work with VDC. In terms of new challenges for the project planning manager, related to VDC and the collaboration tools, the biggest challenges that emerge is the planning and execution of ICE sessions.no_NO
