Analyzing Income Diversification Strategies among Cashew Farming Communities in Ghana
Abstract
An analysis of income diversification strategies among cashew farming communities in Ghana. It highlights how relying solely on cashew farming is unstable due to market volatility and climate change, prompting farmers to adopt on-farm, off-farm, and non-farm diversification methods such as crop-livestock integration, trading, and migration. The study finds that diversification increases income, food security, and resilience against economic shocks. It concludes by recommending policy improvements, such as strengthening the Tree Crop Policy and Planting for Food and Jobs, to support better diversification efforts.
