Through national and international goals, Norway has high ambitions for developing a circular economy. Today's dominant economic model is linear, where 'use and discard' is the method for most materials and products. Circular economy is an offset to the linear economy (Miljødirektoratet, u.å.b). The goal is to use resources and products for as long as possible, in a cycle where as little as possible is lost. As one of Norway's largest industries, the building and construction industry has an important role in the restructuring. It will be important to develop methods for cutting greenhouse gas emissions by minimizing material consumption and extracting natural resources. The purpose of the thesis is to research question: How to carry out projects that emphasize measures for circular economy and the use of circular materials? This is an important question for the building and construction industry, as a transition from a linear to a circular economic model is necessary to develop sustainable projects. A literature and case study has been carried out to research question. The case study has been carried out by an ongoing construction project at Vollebekk in Oslo. Based on conversations, inspections and document review, the thesis has considered how circular principles can be included in a project and how the use of circular materials can be implemented. Four different categories of materials have been selected, where different solutions have been reviewed to evaluate how circular economy can be achieved through material use. Results from the thesis are based on the fact that circular economy is still new to the industry. It will therefore be appropriate to look at projects that focus on circular economy and learn from these. Knowledge sharing of what has worked and what has not worked will be an important factor in further development. When including circular principles in a project, it is important that this is clarified at an early stage. It will be appropriate to choose an implementation model that facilitates interaction and cooperation between different actors. Reverse engineering will be a key concept for the inclusion of circular principles. This is about designing for available materials. Such a design will include new elements in construction projects that differ from traditional projects. This means that a mapping of the area to be built must be carried out so that the materials on site can continue their lives and not end up as waste. The supply of materials has proved to be a barrier for the industry, so systems must be established for sharing and storing building materials suitable for reuse.en_US
