Many Nepalese rural communities are suffering from lack of safe drinking water. One of the reasons is that approximately one third to one half of all drinking water supply systems fail shortly after the construction. The main purpose of this thesis project was to analyze sustainability of rural water supply project managed by water user committee implemented by DWSS in Dhulikhel, Bhakundebesi, kavre and Panchdhara, Kathmandu. In addition, the thesis also reviewed water supply system and its sustainability in Nepal than in general. This thesis focuses primarily on the assessments carried out in the field, observations notes, household survey and discussion with members of water user committee. Results shows that all the studied schemes are financially and technically sustainable and able to delivered good quality of water to the users. Though, the schemes are self reliant, DWSS regularly provide major technical assistance. Hence all of the water supply system seems to be smoothly operating without financial, technical or institution problems with in water supply system and the community. Thus, it can be concluded that three water supply systems are providing quality drinking water to the people.nb_NO
