Ergoterapeutens skjulte kompetanser : innovasjon og produktutvikling som arbeidsområder for ergoterapeuter

Abstract

Formålet med studien har vært å undersøke hvordan ergoterapeutens kompetanser samsvarer med de krav og behov som stilles til innovasjons- og produktutviklingsprosesser. Her vil også ergoterapeutens bidrag i utviklingen av brukervennlige produkter og tjenester vurderes. Ut ifra en teoretisk forankring i hva innovasjons- og produktutvikling handler om, vil ergoterapeutens kunnskaper og ferdigheter måles opp mot dette. Hensikten med studien er å besvare følgende problemstilling: «implementering av ergoterapikompetanse i innovasjons- og produktutviklingsprosesser – belyst gjennom caset: Edal Guitars»

Studien synliggjør at ergoterapeutens kompetanser kan være et godt bidrag i utviklingen av nye og brukervennlige løsninger på dagens og fremtidens utfordringer. Faggruppen setter personen som skal anvende produktet eller tjenesten i fokus og designer løsninger på bakgrunn av deres forutsetninger og behov.

Ved hjelp av en eksplorativ tilnærming er undersøkelsene i denne studien gjennomført ved hjelp av ni semi-strukturerte dybdeintervjuer. Studiens deltagere har ulike bakgrunner og roller som bidrar til at flere perspektiver rundt temaene ergoterapi og produktinnovasjon blir belyst.

Funnene i studien viser at ergoterapeutens kompetanser kan fylle flere av behovene som stilles til innovasjons- og produktutviklingsarbeid. Med dette kan ergoterapeutens virkeområde potensielt utvides til også å gjelde denne typen arbeid. Det trekkes her frem et behov for å forberede ergoterapistudentene på å arbeide med innovasjon og produktutvikling gjennom ergoterapeutiutdanningen. De empiriske funnene bekrefter også at ergoterapeutens kompetanser kan være et nyttig bidrag i utviklingen av tekniske produkter og tjenester. For at ergoterapeuten skal kunne bidra på dette området forutsettes det at faggruppen tilegner seg en viss kunnskap og kompetanse knyttet til teknologi for bedre å kunne koble riktig løsning med behovene til målgruppen.

The purpose of this study has been to investigate how the occupational therapist's competencies correspond to the requirements and needs required in innovation and product development processes. Here, the occupational therapist's contribution in the development of user-friendly products and services will also be evaluated. Based on a theoretical foundation, the occupational therapist’s knowledge and skill will be reviewed according to demands and activities connected to innovation and product development. The purpose of the study is to answer the following question: «The implementation of Occupational Therapy Competence in Innovation and Product Development Processes – explained through the Case: Edal Guitars»

The study demonstrates that the competencies of the occupational therapist can be a good contribution in the developing new and user-friendly solutions related to the challenges we are facing today and in the future. The occupational therapist puts the user of the product in focus and design solutions based on their abilities and needs.

Using an exploratory approach, the investigations in this study were conducted using nine semi-structured depth interviews. The participants in the study all have different backgrounds and roles that help to highlight different perspectives on the topics of occupational therapy and product innovation.

The findings in the study suggests that the occupational therapist's skills can fill a number of needs connected to innovation and product development. With this, the field of work of the occupational therapist can potentially be extended to also apply to innovation and product development. However, there is a need to prepare the occupational therapy students to what it entails to work in innovation and product development. The empirical findings also confirm that the skills of the occupational therapist can be a useful contribution in developing technical products and services. In order for the occupational therapist to be able to contribute in this area, it is assumed that they will need further knowledge and skills related to technology, in order to better connect the correct solution with the needs of the target group.
