The purpose of this thesis was to optimize and simulate systems of solar cells laid on cloth and to investigate the systems potential. The optimizations was the basis for a prototype to be built at Glava, Sweden. By separating the prototype into different parts it was possible to use different solar cell technologies. The potential of each solar cell technology was furthermore evaluated. With the separation of the prototype it was possible to optimize three different solar cell technologies. Therefore a collaboration with three different solar cell producers were initiated. The chosen solar cell technologies was organic, CIGS and c-Si. The configuration of PV modules on cloth was optimized for the prototype. The potential for each technology was also optimized. Power electronics was furthermore optimized for each system, both for the prototype and for the potentials. The power electronics was partly optimized by the help of the simulation tool PVsyst. After the configuration and power electronics was chosen the different systems were simulated in PVsyst. With the use of unconventional systems the simulation work encountered some challenges. Some of the most dominating was the lack of li-ione-batteries in the PVsyst database and demand for equal tilt for modules connected to the same inverter (even when optimizers is used). Furthermore there was limitations in PVsyst with the manual addition of CIGS-modules and organic modules. The simulated prototype achieved a total installed capacity of 2819 W. This was divided between the technologies with 105 W for the organic modules, 1439 W for CIGS-modules and 1275 W for the c-Si-modules. The expected yearly production from the different systems was 92.5 kWh from the organic system, 1279 kWh from the CIGS-system and 1151 kWh from the c-Si-system. When optimizing unconventional systems there are certain challenges that arises, both in the connection between modules with power electronics and in the simulations. For more accurate simulations and evaluations it is necessary with an improvement of simulation tools and more varied power electronics.nb_NO
