Barn i bylandskapet : et nettverk av lekesteder i Oslo sentrum

Abstract

Denne oppgaven utforsker barns muligheter for lek i Oslo sentrums bylandskap, der det i dag kun er to lekeplasser. Gjennom kvalitative studier finner vi flere stemmer som taler for at barn bør få oppleve byen og byens kvaliteter til tross for dens klare mangler. Funnene viser at det er bevissthet rundt temaet barn i by og at det er engasjement, både politisk og blant andre aktører, for å endre dagens situasjon. I et spenningsmoment mellom modernismekritikken og senmodernismen finner vi at barns lek kan planlegges for om man tar det beste fra to verdener. Vi foreslår å skape et nettverk av steder for barn og voksne i det eksisterende bylandskapet, der byrom med uforløst potensiale for lek er viktige brikker. For at et nettverk skal kunne oppstå fant vi at det må skje innenfor hverdagslige og ordinære rammer, der tilbudet består av fysiske elementer som inviterer til grunnleggende lek og læring. På denne måten kan steder for barn og lek, så vel som voksen aktivitet, integreres i det urbane landskapet man finner i Oslo sentrum.

This master thesis explores the possibilities for children’s play in the cityscape of central Oslo, where one can only find two playgrounds today. Through qualitative studies we find several voices advocating that children should indeed experience the city and the qualities of cities, despite its apparent failings. Our findings show that there is a consciousness concerning children in the city and that there are aspirations, both political and other, to change the current situation. In the tension between the modernist criticism and the late modernism, we find that children’s play can be planned for involving the best of both worlds. We suggest creating a network of places for children and adults in the existing cityscape, where urban spaces with unfulfilled potential play an important role. In order for the network to appear, we find that it has to occur within the habitual and everyday framework, where the physical elements invite to basic play and learning. In this way, the places for children and play, as well as adult activity, are integrated in the urban landscape of central Oslo.
