Dyrkingsprosjekt i Botanisk hage og Tøyenparken : en arena for sosialisering og læring

Abstract

Tøyensatsingen har siden 2013 vært en avtalefestet strategi for å bedre levekårene til beboerne på Tøyen. Botanisk hage grenser til området som inkluderes i Tøyensatsingen og er en viktig del av grønnstrukturen i området. Sammen med Tøyenparken gir Botanisk hage grønne opplevelser til beboere på Tøyen og besøkende til området. Oppgaven stiller spørsmålet: Hvordan implementere et dyrkingsprosjekt som oppfordrer til sosialisering og læring på Tøyen, og kan historiske markører og forbindelsene til og gjennom Botanisk hage fremheves gjennom dyrkingsprosjektet? Oppgaven søker å være et innspill til Tøyensatsingen, der Botanisk hage er utgangspunkt for et dyrkingsprosjekt som gir noe tilbake til nærmiljøet og andre som besøker Tøyen. For å øke tilgjengeligheten til og gjøre prosjektet mer synlig i lokalmiljøet, trekkes det utenfor hagens grenser. Eksisterende historiske markører og forbindelser i området integreres i prosjektet og får på den måten en fornyet relevans. I den innledende delen av oppgaven gis en innsikt i Tøyensatsingen og hvordan de målsettingene som satsingen skisserer kan være relevante for denne oppgaven. I tillegg presenteres Botanisk hages historiske utvikling med fokus på hvordan gamle tradisjoner og kunnskap som hagen innehar igjen kan hentes frem og få ny relevans. Portnerstuene som viktige historiske markører og deres forbindelse til hagen blir også presentert. Videre utføres en stedsanalyse, der oppgaveområdet blir presentert. Basert på funn og registreringer gjort i den overordnede stedsanalysen og mål om å integrere portnerstuene i dyrkingsprosjektet, blir oppgaveområdet ytterligere avgrenset til en sekvens av syv delområder. I løsningsforslaget presenteres delområdene og hvordan de historiske og nåværende kvalitetene vil be fremhevet ved fornyelse og endret bruk. Dyrkingsprosjektet deles inn i tre underprosjekt, som henvender seg til ulike brukergrupper. De tre underprosjektene skolehagen, besøkshagen og parsellhagen blir i tråd med oppgavens mål arenaer for sosialisering både i Botanisk hage og Tøyenparken. Samtidig oppfordrer og inspirerer prosjektene brukere og besøkende til læring og samhandling med naturen, og gir en økt forståelse av hvor maten vår kommer fra.

Since 2013 Tøyensatsingen, or the Tøyen Initiative, has been a politically anchored strategy to enhance living conditions for the residents of the Tøyen district in Oslo, Norway. The Botanical Garden and Tøyen Park are important components of the green structure in the area, and offers residents and visitors the opportunity to experience local green scenery in the heart of the city. The thesis research question is: How can an urban farming project, that encourages social interaction and learning, be implemented in Tøyen, and is it possible to accentuate historical markers and connections to, and through The Botanical Garden through this urban farming project? The thesis seeks to contribute to The Tøyen Initiative whereby the Botanical Garden is the starting point for an urban farming project that aims to benefit both the local community and the people visiting the area. The Urban Farming Project will also be established outside the boundaries of the garden in order to enhance accessibility and increase the project´s visibility in the area. Existing historical markers and connections in the area will be integrated into the project and in so doing gain renewed significance. The introductory part of the thesis explains The Tøyen Initiative, its goals, and why they are relevant for this thesis. Further the historical development of The Botanical Garden is presented, highlighting how old traditions and knowledge held within the garden can be rejuvenated and gain relevance. The most important historical markers, portnerstuene (The Porter Rooms), will be presented along with their connection to the gardens. A place analysis is subsequently conducted to delineate the scope and focus of the thesis. Based on registrations and findings made in the analysis, as well as the ambition to include The Porter Rooms in the urban farming project, the focus of the paper is further divided to seven sub-areas. The proposed suggestion for the project include a presentation of the seven sub-areas and how historical and contemporary qualities will be accentuated and revitalized through the changes implemented. The Urban Farming Project is broken down into three underlying parallel projects, targeting different user groups. In accordance with the aims of this thesis, the three sub-projects- the school garden, the visitors’ garden and the personal allotment garden - will become social arenas in the Botanical Garden and Tøyen Park, encouraging and inspiring visitors to learn about nature and gain a greater appreciation of where our food comes from.
