tidligere jernbanetomt syd for Lågård Gravlund i Stavanger.
I undersøkelsen
tomten.
The thesis is a feasibility study. The intention of the study
is to discover whether it is possible to combine the burial areas,
memorial areas and meditative qualities of a cemetery
with the recreational activites of a public park. The feasibility
study is conducted using a practical investigative design
method based on an actual site, an earlier operational railway
plot south of the historic Lagård Cemetery, which is
situated in the Norwegian west coast city of Stavanger.
A central part of the method is a light and shadow study, of
structures that can house the memorial and in some incidences
the burial functions of a cemetery. The investigation
is conducted through model making and photography.
The method of investigation also includes a broad literature
study, visits to other cemeteries, and multiple site visits to
Lagård cemetery. Through the creation of collages the essence
of how the organisation of the tree layer of 6 historical
and contemporary graveyards and two alternatives
can affect the mood of the proposed park cemetry is also
analysed.
The result of the study is that, if used in a planned and conscious
way, the effect of light and shadows combined with
vegetation, subtle thresholds and memorial structures can
be a succesful strategy in the attempt to combine recreational
park activites with the burial and memorial functions
of a cemetery whilst ensuring that the meditative qualities of
the cemetery is sustained. | nb_NO |
