The population growth in the Norwegian cities has never been as strong as today. The population growth leads to a demand for more housing and jobs, and search for new land is necessary. In such fast-running processes it’s often the green lungs and the areas along the shoreline that lose the fight against city densification and strong economic forces. Moss is an emerging city near the coast and is located relatively close to Oslo, and therefore face these challenges. The master thesis contains the transformation of an area in the former industry area Verket/ Peterson in Moss. This area has a history from 300 years back in time. The project is about planning and designing the area in the south of Verket, the potential connection between the exsisting town centre, across the river and towards the new district which is planned. The focus for the project is to create space for people to be social and active. Further to create good pathways for circulation and meeting places in the city that provide attractions and functions that invite people to use them. The significance ecology and recreation have for people in Moss, has been leading the project to accommodate space for a vital green lung. In addition, it is valuable to facilitate space for people to stay by the riverside. In the first part of the thesis is the relevant analyses of the project area presented and background theory for further planning and design. The concept, urban spaces and the park are visualised throughout the thesis. The design shows a solution for how this area with various functions related to physical and cultural activity can be designed, and should inspire to increased focus on conservation and development of the blue- green structures in the town.nb_NO
