Bærekraftigutvikling av Larvik Indre havn

Abstract

Masteroppgaven tar for seg bærekraftig utvikling av transformasjonsområdet Larvik Indre havn. Området har siden ferjeterminalen ble flyttet i 2008, blitt opparbeidet som en midlertidig park. Parken har blitt svært populær blant lokalbefolkningen, spesielt i sommerhalvåret. Sjøen og de gode havneforholdene la grunnlaget for Larvik slik vi kjenner byen i dag. Byen som en gang vokste ut av havnen, har desverre mistet sjøkontakt. Infrastrukturen i området skaper markante barrierer, hvorav jernbanen og Storgata har størst innvirkning. Larvik står foran endringer med urbanisering, transformasjon og fortetting. Endelig avgjørelse for plassering av nytt dobbeltspor gjennom Larvik, vil ha stor innvirkning for videre utvikling Indre havn, hvor dagens jernbanestasjon ligger. Denne oppgaven forutsetter at dagens jernbanetrasé med stasjon, flyttes fra området. Løsningsforslaget er likevel såpass fleksibelt at en jernbanetrasé under bakken vil kunne integreres. Denne oppgaven fokuserer på sosial og grønn bærekraft, og vektlegger det å skape gode bystrukturer innad i transformasjonsområdet og i sammenheng med eksisterende byliv. Eksisterende natur- og kulturkvaliteter brukes som identitets- og verdiskapende virkemiddler, noe som reflekteres i selve løsningsforskaget. Oppgaven belyser i tillegg viktigheten og verdien av tilgjengelige rekreasjons- og friluftsområder for allmenheten i bynær kystsone.

The thesis analyzes how to sustainably develop the transformation area Larvik Inner Harbour. Since the ferry terminal moved in 2008, the area has been transformed into a temporary park. The park has become very popular among the local population, especially in summer. Access to the ocean and Larvik’s natural harbour laid the foundation for Larvik town as we know it today. Larvik town, which originally developed around the harbor, has over the years gradually lost connection with the ocean front. The infrastructure in the area, especially the railroad and Storgata, represent significant barriers to access. Larvik town is now facing urbanization, transformation and densification. A final decision for locating a new double rail line through the town, will have a huge impact on the future development of Larvik Inner Harbor, where the railway station now is situated. This thesis presupposes that the path of the railroad and the railway station is relocated. The solution proposed is nevertheless flexible enough to allow for the railroad to potentially be moved underground. This thesis focuses on social and green sustainability and emphasizes the creation of good intercity infrastructures within the transformation area as well as connecting it with existing city life.
