Plassering av skulpturer i offentlige uterom

Abstract

Sammendrag: I denne oppgaven tar vi opp temaet plassering av skulpturer i det offentlige uterom. En alminnelig oppfatning i dagens samfunn er at kunst bidrar positivt i menneskers hverdag. Av denne grunn blir det kjøpt inn og plassert ut mange skulpturer, men mye av kunsten i det offentlige uterom synes dessverre å få en tilfeldig og lite gjennomtenkt plassering. De gode sidene ved kunsten faller bort når man ikke bruker god nok tid på prosessen med å finne riktig plassering til kunstverket. Vi har undersøkt hvilken praksis kommunene Oslo, Larvik og Moss har i forbindelse med utplassering av utendørs kunstverk. Vi har tatt for oss 38 skulpturer i disse tre kommunene og analyserer plasseringen av dem inngående. Fellestrekkene fra denne vurderingen har vi deretter benyttet som grunnlag i utarbeidelsen av en momentliste for utplassering av kunst. For noen av skulpturene foreslår vi også tiltak som kan forbedre plasseringene, både med enkle og mer kompliserte grep. Forslagene er illustrert ved hjelp av skisser og fotomanipulasjoner. Målet med masteroppgaven er å lage et veiledende dokument som kommuner, næringsliv og andre aktuelle instanser kan benytte seg av når det skal settes opp en skulptur og utarbeides fremtidige rutiner for forvaltning og vedlikehold. Forhåpentligvis vil flere miljøer kunne ta lærdom av denne oppgaven og slik forhindre feil som ofte begås fordi man ikke vurderer alle de nødvendige momentene ved utplassering av skulptur i det offentlige uterom. Abstract: This master thesis addresses the placement of sculptures in public outdoor spaces. A common perception seems to be that art has a positive effect on the human mind, and for this reason a lot of sculptures are placed in the outdoor spaces. Quite frequently, however, the placement seems random and poorly planned. If the process of assessing an appropriate location is too hasty, or performed using the wrong criteria, one risks that the positive effect of the art is reduced or completely lost. In our work, we have investigated what practice and routines the municipalities Oslo, Larvik and Moss follow when placing new sculptures in the public outdoor space. By analysing 38 sculptures and their placement in detail, we have been able to point out common features important for the appropriate placement of art. Based on these features, we have prepared a checklist for this exact purpose. For several of the sculptures we have also prepared suggestions for a better placement. This is illustrated using sketches and photo manipulations. The purpose of our master thesis is to compose a guiding document for municipalities, businesses and other stakeholders to apply when putting out sculptures and preparing routines for administration and maintenance of the art and its surroundings. Hopefully, several professions will learn from our work, and thereby be able to prevent common mistakes often committed when placing sculptures in public outdoor spaces.
