In this master’s thesis I have looked at the cumulative effects of wind farms along the Norwegian coastline. My concern has been on the visual impact of wind farms and what they do to the coastal landscape. The wind power development that we see today represents a huge pressure on our coastal landscapes. The consequences for our landscapes will be enormous. This demands that we see the different wind power developments in coherence with each other, instead of looking at them separately. Landscapes are important for people, and in Norway we have a unique coastal landscape to protect. In this master’s thesis I look at how we in Norway approach the problem with cumulative effects when it comes to wind power developments. I take a look at both the planning process and different methods for analyzing cumulative effects. It turns out that little has been done in Norway regarding these cumulative effects. This is partly caused by the lack of a good method for analyzing cumulative effects, and also because the Norwegian government are avoiding the problem. This thesis is pointing out what is missing in the Norwegian system concerning cumulative effects of wind power developments and is suggesting improvements.en_US
