The reason for our investigation is the assumption that it can be identified characteristics of the profitable customers in a business enterprise, and that measures can be shown to
increase the profitability of less profitable customers. In order to analyze the customer
profitability we have drawn a sample of the customer base and calculated customer sales minus costs. This gives us the contribution each customer brings to the company, described in this thesis as the customer contribution. The customer contribution will then be used to
graphically depict the distribution of customer profitability in our sample and analyze the distribution of customer profitability. The analysis will be the background for the discussion
of measures that can be implemented by the enterprise to change the profitability of
customers who are less profitable or unprofitable. It will also be shown how measures can have a positive impact on how customers perceive Mosoft as a whole or how customers perceive the product package sold. The thesis will provide a response to which customers that are profitable for the company, what makes those customers profitable, which customers who are not as profitable for the company and what the company can do to increase profitability of these customers.
The results in this paper are shown through customer profitability analysis on a range of
Mosoft’s customer base, both for the total sample and for each category within the sample. The limitation in this study was that only the customer profitability for one year was calculated, but this is a tool for Mosoft so they can calculate customer profitability of their customers in the future. Furthermore Mosoft can consider whether customer relationships are appropriate and whether the customers contribute to the extent that is required in relation to resources that are included in the customer relationship. Based on the analyses conclusions could be drawn that the profitable customers at Mosoft
can be characterized by low consumption of Mosoft’s resources, i.e. hours. We also found significant differences in the characteristics of the profitable and less profitable/unprofitable customers. The analyses of customer profitability in the company identified where the
possibilities for improvement lie for Mosoft in terms of earnings. The last chapter show
which measures can be taken to increase the earnings of the less profitable customers. These measures are all about creating a superior customer value of the product and have better cost control in the company. | no_NO |
