The aim of the work presented in this thesis was the development of methods for the synthesis of propargyl-terminated resins, a group of high temperature resistant thermosetting materials with applications within the defense and aerospace industry. 4,4´-Biphenol mono(propargyl ether) was synthesized and tested in the preparation of silicon-containing propargyl-terminated monomers. The incorporation of silicon reduces the brittleness of these materials, something which is of major concern. Syntheses of these monomers by dehydrogenative coupling reactions between 4,4´-biphenol mono(propargyl ether) and silyl hydrides catalyzed by tris(pentafluorphenyl)boran were attempted. 4,4´-Biphenol mono(propargyl ether) was also tested in alkylation reactions with alkyl bromides and acylation reactions with terephthalic acid chloride and adipic acid chloride. The development of efficient reaction conditions for the synthesis of more classic propargyl-terminated monomers from bisphenols was then studied, and satisfactory preparation methods were established. The curing process of the propargyl-terminated monomers was studied using calorimetric analysis. In addition, the influence of catalytic quantities (1 mol-%) of transition metal salts on the curing process of 4,4´-biphenol di(propargyl ether) was investigated using Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) analysis by addition of metallic platinum (nano platinum), tetrakis(triphenylphosphine)palladium(0), potassium gold(III) chloride, gold(III) chloride hydrate and triphenylphosphine gold(I) chloride. Only the palladium compound was found to significantly influence the curing prosess by reduction of the polymerization temperature.no_NO
