| en_US |
dc.description.abstract | Market manipulation in the physical power market is very difficult to detect. Producers might have significant amounts of market power, and the question is whether market power is used to manipulate the price. This master thesis will use Norwegian power producers’ bids in the spot market and the regulatory market, to detect the possibility of manipulating the market by using strategic bidding. By using a Cournot model, it will be derived an optimal solution, which will provide an insight in strategic behaviour in the Norwegian power market. Furthermore, it will be investigated how the slopes of the demand curves affect arbitrage and price premium between the markets. This has been done to gain a better understanding of market manipulation in the physical power market. Evidence provided by this master thesis indicates that in hours with inelastic spot market demand, the profits of regulation upwards will increase, and in hours with inelastic regulation market demand, will increase the profit of regulation downwards. It will be proven that more arbitrage will yield higher prices in the regulatory market. | en_US |
